[ CHARACTER INFORMATION ]
Name: Dwight Hendrickson
Age: is and appears 35 years old
Gender: Male
Canon: Haven
Timeline: Post “Magic Hour II” Season 3, Episode 8
Background:
Shipped out to Afghanistan in late 2001. Army Ranger, his platoon is sent to a supposedly abandoned building. When they arrive, they find out that it isn’t abandoned. The team is captured and in that moment, when Dwight sees his fellow soldiers on their knees convinced that they will never see home again; his Trouble is triggered. Every bullet fired finds it’s way into his body. It saves his platoon, but lands him in the infirmary, wounded and confused. A man arrives and explains to him about Haven, about the troubles and how he can be safe in the small town. The man’s name is Grady and he also tells Dwight about The Guard. The Guard is an organization that protects the troubled in Haven; but Dwight doesn’t feel like he should be protected. He is a soldier, which means he has that need to protect. Grady’s parting words are “Well, then why don’t you do the protecting?”
He moves to Haven soon after, but he is not yet fully associated with The Guard. He brings with him hope for a new beginning for him and for his young daughter Lizzie. There is no mention of her mother and Dwight states that ‘all we have is each other’. They manage to settle down in Haven but eventually The Guard makes contact with Dwight. A woman by the name of Jordan contacts Dwight and states that The Guard could use a man like him. She leaves him a bullet proof vest at his door and eventually accompanies him to varies meetings. There are hints of an attraction between them, or at least a very deep trust.
As he continues to participate with the guard, he starts to see what The Guard really is. This is where his ‘cleaning’ starts. His experience being an Army Ranger comes in handy as he works to protect and cover up what the Troubled have done. Dwight doesn’t seem to mind much, but is beginning to question his involvement with the group. The final straw comes when The Guard asks him to kill someone; Dwight refuses and leaves.
Of course leaving The Guard isn’t so easy, especially not with the knowledge that he was allowed to gain. So members of The Guard, his former teammates, are sent to kill him. They comes straight to his door and he goes out ot meet them. When they pull out a gun he wrestles it away from them after a bit of a struggle. During which the gun goes off. Dwight shows confusion because the bullet should have come towards him. The answer is clear when he turns around and sees his daughter laying dead just inside the door. Lizzie had come to see what was happening and the trauma of seeing her father facing an armed man caused her Trouble, the same trouble that Dwight has, to trigger. The stray bullet striking her in the head.
Dwight cuts all ties with The Guard after that, swearing that they will never hurt someone like they hurt him. If asked why he will say that The Guard cost him everything. He begins to work with the local Police Chief, Garland Wuornos, a Troubled man who is literally holding the town together. Along with the chief, Dwight works to clean up evidence of the troubles. Making excuses on why certain things happened, cleaning up suspicious dead bodies or accidents. He is often interviewed by Dave and Vince Teague to give a clear cover story for whatever Trouble happens in Haven.

Personality:
There are three very simple words to describe who Dwight Hendrickson is; loyal, brave and hardworking. He is a man that many people can rely on because he will do what it takes to get whatever job given to him done. And done well. As long as no one else is getting hurt. Even though he has a strong sense of loyalty, the man also has a strong sense of right and wrong. If he feels that what needs to be done will hurt more people then help…he will refuse to do it. Regardless of the cost. If he feels, however, that what a person is doing is right then he will be the most stalwart man you could possibly know.
While Dwight has had several bad and tragic experiences in his life he is not a bitter man. He’s very kind and approachable. It was one of the things that helped him during his time as a recruit and cleaner for The Guard. The secretive nature of both The Guard and his former military position has lead him to become rather reserved though. Not to point of being introverted, but he won’t speak about his past unless absolutely necessary. Even then it is usually for dire reasons, as when The Guard began a recruiting cycle and he revealed to the general populace what The Guard had cost him and how they worked. Those that know him well were shocked by the open reveal; but Dwight himself said that it was needed regardless of what it meant for him.
Which leads me into speaking about his rather broad and obvious protective streak. It was this need to protect people that actually drove him to agree with helping The Guard in the first place. Since his curse insured that he would no longer be able to work as a soldier. He could not simply let himself be protected; he was the one who did the protecting. This is especially true for children; the man has an emotional weakness for them. This traces back to his daughter and how he feels that he failed to protect her from the curse that lives in their blood.
His daughter’s death, along with his father’s refusal to acknowledge the shame of a Trouble in the family, really piles on a lot of the negative aspects of Dwight’s personality. The most obvious of these is melancholy that follows him around. He has moments where he will simply grow distant and quiet. Especially if a situation reminds him of his family. It wouldn’t be so bad if he was only distant during these moments, but the wrong thing said can also make his rare temper flare. This makes him act rather impulsively, disregarding his own safety in order to get away or finish a job. The best example is the episode entitled “Where, What, Wendigo” when one of the other characters mentions his reckless behavior. Dwight simply reminds them that his daughter would have been nine years old the day before and walks off.
For an overall view, the simple way to describe Dwight would be that he is a laidback yet stubborn man. His kind nature allows him to let most thing just slide off his back but when it is really needed he can be the most determined person around. Which considering the rest of his castmates does say something. Any friend he makes is for life, even several members of The Guard he still considers friends. He does take betrayal rather seriously; unless he expects it. Then, oddly enough, he can be rather forgiving once he deems the slight has been avenged. For example Duke (literally) tossed him off his boat, a few episodes later Dwight brings it up after throwing a manhole cover at Duke. After that, Dwight says that Crocker can be trusted. He has a weird way of dealing with grudges.
Why is your character a good fit for the setting of Soul Campaign, and what will they do once they are in the game?
Dwight has always insisted that his job is to protect people. Regardless of the situation, if he can somehow help out- then he will. His own experience with both war and the strangeness that is Haven will be a big help to Shibusen and Death City. Since not only is he combat ready, but he has had to deal with convincing people to do what is best for a situation.
List the abilities your character will still have in Soul Campaign:
Dwight is a fully trained Army Ranger that has seen extensive combat in Afghanistan (circa 1999-2001). This means he has trained to handle several types of armaments, has basic medical training as well as strategy training. He does very well at hand to hand combat as well as disarming a person.
He has the strength of someone who has been fully trained in combat and works out regularly to maintain that.
Intelligence wise, Dwight is rather cunning. He can find a way to deal with the strangeness that crops up in Haven from day to day. He can figure out the best or quickest solution to a problem and can handle that solution very well. He tends to work alone, so he is very capable of taking care of himself. That doesn’t mean he can’t handle team work, he was part of a Regiment during his time in the Army. His best strength though is know when to take the lead; but also knowing when to hand it to someone who know better.
Another thing he will retain is his knowledge of carpentry. It isn’t just basic knowledge, he can rewire electronics, rebuild just about anything and has a good grasp of car mechanics. He’s the resident Go To Guy for any repairs done in Haven. From replanting flowers to re-wiring the entire hospital. He tends to also do this completely by himself.
List the weaknesses your character will gain (or lose) in Soul Campaign:
Lose: His Trouble; which is basically him being a Bullet Magnet. If a gun fires within 100 yards, the bullet will automatically come to him. This is supernatural in origin, so I assume that it will be lost thanks to BREW.
Gain: mostly he will lose the network of ‘guys he knows’ that help him keep a lid on the odd happening in Haven. Which will hamper his ability to ‘clean’ up events and get away with getting caught in places he shouldn’t be. Not to mention his supplies and weaponry that he keeps in his truck and Repair Van…he’ll even be missing his Swiss Army Knife.
The weakness that he will keep is the trauma that he suffered from his daughter’s Death. It’s the main thing that any strong Madness Wavelength will latch onto and it does have the strength to physically incapacitate him. Emotional breakdowns suck like that.
[ WEAPON ]
Soul Description:
Stalwart, amiable, melancholy, protective, moral, reserved
Dwight’s soul is camouflage pattern in hues of red and has his little hair poof at the front. The face looks like it is smiling, but there is a bit of a sad tinge to it. There is also a slight change in color, the brightness dulling, every so often. An indication of his Trouble.
(Weapon Form):
Modified Beretta M9 handgun.
Modified: The M9 doesn’t have a sight laser, Dwight’s weapon form will. The light will be red and will also (occasionally based on resonation) dull like his Soul does.
*Ability: Uses soul energy for bullets. Like the real M9, Dwight can only fire 15 shots at a time. Resonation will determine how quick his reload time is. Soul count will determine individual bullet strength.*
Low resonation: 2 min-4 min reload time (first reload will be at 2 minutes, the next is 4 mins. 2 load limit)
Medium resonation: 45 seconds-2 minutes (1st is 45 seconds. 4 load limit)
High resonation: 20-50 seconds (1st is 20 seconds. 6 load limit)

[ SAMPLES ]
First-Person
[There was something to be said for interesting technology; what the was Dwight could care less. He was, so far as he was concerned, being dragged along to someone else’s plans once again. This time no one bothered to ask if he was even interested.
Yeah. Not happy. Interested…but not happy.
Which shows as he manages to switch the video feed on, showing DEMISE a rather grumpy looking blond.]
Look…I get the idea that this place needs help. I’m not blaming anyone for that. But. Could it have hurt to ask before randomly dumping me in a dark room with a headache? I would’ve even been reasonable about gas money.
Third-Person
Waking up isn’t supposed to be jarring. It’s a natural occurrence that many people go through every day- of course…when one doesn’t remember falling asleep…well, that’s when waking up becomes something to be startled over. Dwight was very startled. He groped around on the floor for any sign of his bow; because he always had it with him. It was no longer a question of maybe needing it back home. He licked his lips when he couldn’t find it. “That means…either it’s far away or completely gone. So far not liking this.”. He stands up slowly, thankful that he can still feel the familiar weight of his vest pressing against his chest.
It’s a small relief though because now he can focus on what is around him. Which, to his hidden horror, is nothing familiar. Obvious signs of battle and age but other then that…Dwight has no idea where he is or how he came to be here. Luckily the screens come on and the answers to his more pressing question come to light. The red-haired man tells him about a war against witches. Which telephones is not the strangest thing he has ever come across. Magic actually would make things a bit easier to swallow, even if it doesn’t really convince him to jump out to save these guys.
It’s not until he has walked through the streets of the half destroyed city, filled with citizens and what seem to be refugees of some sort, that he really begins to think this over. He gives a small nod of thanks to his escort and surveys his new ‘home’. His mind just isn’t on the apartment though; it’s focused on the determined and lost faces he saw while coming over. This war…just like all others, wasn’t just effecting the soldiers and fighters. It was hurting innocent civilians; people who simply wanted to go on with their lives. The Cleaner sighs and sits on his bed, toying with the communicator he had been given. His gaze goes to the window where he sees bright skies and that forever creepy sun. Then, to no one but himself. Just as a way to assert his conviction…
“…fine. I’m in.”
Notes
Due to the supernatural power lose, Dwight will NOT have his Trouble; however it will still be visible in his Soul.
